The Chinese pirates who created KuaiYong, a Windows app that allows pirated iOS software to be installed on an iPhone or iPad without jailbreaking, has now created a web version of its pirate app store, reports TechInAsia (via techmeme) … KuaiYong used a bulk enterprise licence to get around the safeguards designed to protect apps from being pirated. The new website, 7659.com, is essentially just a front end to the app: downloading any iOS software from the site will download and install the KuaiYong app if it isn’t already installed....

Samsung has warned today that there is a “serious imbalance” in semiconductors globally and a chip shortage could delay the launch of its Note flagship. Analysts also point out that this shortage is affecting almost everyone except Apple. 21st Century Business Herald said local reporters were informed on Wednesday that the Cyber Security Administration of the MIIT was suspending its information-sharing partnership with Alibaba Cloud for six months, specifically citing the failure to report Log4J as the reason why. Chen Zhaojun, a security engineer at Alibaba Cloud, was identified by Bloomberg News as the first person to discover the Log4J vulnerability and report it to Apache. Zhaojun told Apache on November 24, and a third party later informed the MIIT in a report on December 9, according to Reuters....

For its fourth quarter, Comcast reported non-GAAP net income of $3.1 billion, or 66 cents a share, on revenue of $30.3 billion. Excluding items, Comcast reported earnings of 77 cents a share, up from 56 cents a share a year earlier, according to the company’s earnings announcement. Although non-GAAP earnings-per-share for the fourth quarter were down 9.6% from last year, Philadelphia-based Comcast beat Wall Street estimates on its adjusted earnings-per-share, by four cents....

The cost of Apple-endorsed Lightning cables may fall if Macotakara is correct that Apple has reduced both the cost and minimum purchase volumes for MFi licenses. The new deal was reportedly introduced last month, and would likely take some time to filter through into retail prices. The MFi program is a licensing arrangement dating back to 2005, when it stood for Made For iPod. It now officially stands for Made For iPhone/iPod/iPad, and allows manufacturers access to the authentication chip as well as the right to use the MFi logo and describe the cables as certified....
