After rumblings back in the spring, Comcast is officially rolling out its new XFINITY Instant TV bundle for broadband customers today. Plans start at $18 per month as the cable giant looks to retain cord-cutters that are becoming increasingly dependent on services like Hulu, Netflix and others. Civil rights organizations have expressed strong support for Apple’s resistance to a court order instructing it to create special firmware that would allow the FBI to break into an iPhone – with tech companies doing the same, albeit in a weaker fashion. The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) posted a statement in which it said that it applauded Apple for standing up for the rights of its customers, and would be making its views known to the court....

While Apple has long resisted the idea of a touchscreen Mac, a clever solution from a group of developers gives an existing Mac touchscreen capabilities. The proof of concept is called “Project Sistine” and is based on $1 worth of hardware… Developed by Anish Athalye, Kevin Kwok, Guillermo Webster, and Logan Engstrom, the solution requires a small mirror, rigid paper plate, door hinge, and hot glue. All of these parts are then assembled, a process which the team says takes just a few minutes, and put on the top of the Mac near the camera....

Los Angeles has brought a lawsuit against The Weather Channel alleging that the app “deceptively collected, shared and profited from the location information of millions of American consumers.” This news comes from The New York Times after it published an expose last month about apps that threaten privacy with their location data practices. The Weather Channel was named in last months NYT report about apps that send user location data to as many as 40 third-party companies....

Joel and Ethan Coen, one of Hollywood’s most acclaimed and respected filmmaking teams, have entered into something of an untraditional phase in their careers. They released Hail, Caesar!, an acclaimed and well-reviewed comedy, in early 2016, but the Coens, who have often had prolific stretches of a movie a year for several years, haven’t yet announced their next film project. Instead, the Coens have lately been writing films, but not directing them - they’re among the credited screenwriters for 2014’s Unbroken, 2015’s Bridge of Spies, and are also reportedly writing an “Internet thriller” called Dark Web....

Apple’s third supplier for the iPad 2’s touchscreen is Foxconn affiliate Chimei Innolux, reports Bloomberg.
