The app highlights places friends have visited, and events friends are attending … TNW first spotted the feature in testing last year, with others seeing it again now, suggesting a wider rollout....

Kevin Smith reveals that the new Clerks III storyline was inspired by his real-life heart attack. In 1994, he released the original Clerks movie, a black and white indie that inspired numerous Generation X filmmakers. Smith nearly passed away from a 2018 heart attack, and has since lost over 50 pounds. Clerks marked Smith’s feature directorial debut, and represents the first installment of the View Askewniverse series. The day-in-the-life narrative about aloof 20-somethings features several now-iconic movie characters, including Jay and Silent Bob, portrayed by Jason Mewes and Smith himself....

Apple News+ will soon have a new competitor. The Information reports today that CNN is planning a new news aggregation service that would include a mix of subscription and advertising-based content. CNN digital chief Andrew Morse teased the new service today. The service does not yet have a name, but it’s being referred to internally as “NewsCo.” Through this, CNN would “pay news organizations to feature their content on the platform....

Apple is expected to introduce its streaming video service in just a few days, but the market is already incredibly crowded with other streaming services. Adding to that today is Comcast, which is launching its new Xfinity Flex Internet streaming TV service. In other streaming news today, Motion Picture Association of America published its annual report on the state of the entertainment market. The report shows that streaming video subscribers increased by 27 percent in 2018 as more people become cordcutters without losing access to content....
