Comcast has shared today that it will be launching an unlimited wireless plan later this year. This move will make the company the first major cable provider in the US to offer wireless service as it looks to expand its business. Reuters reports this morning that Comcast will be giving discounts to its customers that bundle services. Version 52 of Google Chrome is now rolling out to all users via Google’s stable channel with the usual bug fixes and security patches. For Mac, the update notably adds Material Design to the browser’s top bar and other UI elements. Other changes include removing the ability to use the backspace key as a return shortcut. The Material redesign of Chrome was announced earlier this year and unifies the browser’s look with the rest of Google’s Android and iOS apps....

CISA previously said federal civilian agencies would have until December 24 to address the issue, but it noted that the latest directive “is in response to the active exploitation by multiple threat actors of vulnerabilities found in the widely used Java-based logging package Log4j.” CISA Director Jen Easterly said they are urging organizations of all sizes to also assess their network security and adapt the mitigation measures outlined in the emergency directive....

Looking at Apple’s recent history of new product launches, it seems that delays are the norm rather than the exception. AirPods were originally promised for late October 2016, and actually went on sale in mid-December. HomePod was announced in June 2017, promised for December 2017, and wasn’t actually available until February 2018. In both cases, Apple missed the all-important holiday gift season, which undoubtedly hurt launch sales. The Mac Pro isn’t technically late, as the company said only that it would go on sale ‘after 2017,’ but it was announced in April 2017 and a year later Apple said it would be sometime in 2019 – which is a lengthy wait by anyone’s standards....

Apple’s latest iPad is a curious product. It’s not a flagship device and doesn’t introduce any new technologies. It has an unremarkable name: just iPad, no qualifiers like Pro or a version number. It doesn’t do anything my year-old 9.7-inch iPad Pro can’t already do because it’s not as advanced. For that reason alone, I have no plans on buying the new iPad. As the Trump administration announced plans to widen the net on its tariffs on Chinese imports, China has threatened retaliatory action which could prove ‘fairly devastating’ to Apple – hitting iPhones as well as other devices … The WSJ reports that it is now not just Apple products which could be hit by import tariffs, but also the materials Apple needs to make its iPhones.
